This project was actually a bit of a nightmare. Being a huge fan of Fallout 3, I wanted to hang some of the retro-futuristic propaganda art in my office but, alas, couldn't find any. The "Courage Today, Victory Tomorrow" in-game posters always excited me and so I decided that I would try recreating the in-game poster in great detail and large enough that it could become a wall feature.
I had to play through the game until I came across one of the posters on a wall, and then used my digital camera to take a photo of the screen (I was playing on XBox through a projector, and didn't have a capture card at the time). I then had to try and replicate every aspect of the poster as accurately as possible.
My original attempt was all wrong as I couldn't really see much detail on the Brotherhood Paladin and, instead, sketched it out by sitting in front of my own full size Brotherhood statue. It wasn't until shortly thereafter that I found a version of the poster online (albeit rather small) and could see that I'd used far too much detail in the Brotherhood soldier. I therefore scrapped everything that I'd done (which I've also added to this gallery as a sketch) and started again with less detail but more accurate to the original in-game poster.
The finished artwork is 8858 x 9466 pixels on a 75cm x 80cm canvas. Created entirely in Photoshop CS2 using a Wacom Intuos A3 tablet.
